When You Are Good, You Don’t Need To Be Complicated

0217RDCipad When You Are Good, You Don’t Need To Be Complicated

The buzz surrounding the potential announcement of the iPad3 has reached a fever pitch in recent weeks. Will it be bigger? Smaller? Will it have a better camera (yes, please!) or a higher definition display? One thing is for certain, it will build upon the already excellent and intuitive devices Apple has already created. As technology evolves, what was great last year is just a building block for the new thing yet to come.

That’s why we’ve been working hard on the new evolution of the Realtor.com iOS real estate search app, to make it easier and faster for all iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users to discover and research great real estate. The updated app now shows price reduced, foreclosed, and recently sold properties for a more complete picture of the real estate market.

As the iPhone, iPad and related products continue to change, it has become more and more clear that these products, which were originally seen more as entertainment devices are doing some serious heavy lifting in terms of productivity and business. Another trend is also that people are increasingly consuming information in graphic form. From infographics to data visualization software like Tableau, there is a real need for relevant facts and figures to be visually appealing.  On the Realtor.com app, users can watch as recently sold listings and rentals pop up as they zoom into an area while looking at open houses. It’s a way of getting an instant look at the ever-evolving market at the local level without ever having to study a chart. Bright orange badges for foreclosures and green arrows for reduced prices also help make searches easier and more intuitive.

Apple’s directive when creating products is simplicity. This one word mantra helps guide the business as new products are developed.  If there is one word that could be used to describe Realtor.com it would be accuracy. We’re obsessed with it.  Our goal is always to provide the largest and most accurate collection of online property listings available. Today, 85% of all property listings on Realtor.com are updated every 15 minutes directly by an MLS. The rest are updated every one to 24 hours. We want to serve up the most up-to-date data in the most attractive way possible giving you everything you need to see what the market is doing simply by using your fingers to navigate around the app. Steve Jobs believed that when you are good, you don’t need to be complicated.  We agree.
